Changing Your Name Servers

January 1, 2015 By Ty Cahill

Name servers store the Internet directory information that connects your domain name to your website and email hosting. Essentially, name servers tell the internet where to find your website and where to deliver your email. Like a phonebook, people type in your website’s name and the name servers give them the number to call.

Our name servers are:

  • dns1.stabletransit.com
  • dns2.stabletransit.com

If you have a domain that you have already registered and you want to host it with us, you will need to go to the domain registrar and set our name servers for the domain. This DNS change will take some time to propagate to the Internet from your domain registrar, but usually not more than 24 hours.

If you’re unsure of your current name servers, a WHOIS search can help you determine which name servers are currently assigned to your domain name. Whenever you change your hosting service provider, the name server information for your domain must be updated to reflect that your site is now being hosted on a different server.

How to change your name servers

Before people can get to your website you will need to change your name servers from your current registrar to point to our name servers. Follow these steps:

  1. Access your account with your current registrar (for example, godaddy.com or register.com).
  2. Change the name servers to dns1.stabletransit.com and dns2.stabletransit.com.

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to take effect. If you have any questions or need help, always feel free to get in touch.

We can help register your domain

Domain registration is one of the many managed services we provide. We are an authorized domain reseller and can work with you to register your domain and take care of all the configuration and setup needed for your website.

Quick tip: Always make sure your domain is registered under your name to prove ownership. Some agencies and designers will register your domain for you, but under their name…so they have legal ownership of your domain.
