History of the World (Wide Web)

History of the World (Wide Web)

Since I keep running into people with “web experience” that pre-dates the existence of the web, or similar such claims, I thought it would be handy to create a list of key dates for the History of the World Wide Web. It’s interesting to see how quickly things evolve and change on the Web.

  • World Wide Web proposal written by Tim Berners-Lee – 3/12/1989
  • First website tested – 12/20/1990
  • Tim Berners-Lee reports about the project on the newsgroup alt.hypertext – 8/7/1991
  • Mosaic web browser released (version 1.0) – 11/11/1993
